My name is Emily Haynes McGee. I am a hearing sign language interpreter and founder of Mosaic Interpreting Services. I grew up in Mobile, Alabama. Mobile is right on the water, a quintessential Southern city, complete with old oak trees and Spanish moss. Growing up near the water inspired a love of nature in me. I moved from Mobile to Chicago to attend the University of Chicago and study linguistics. That was not a good fit for me. I missed being around people. I tooled around the country and then transferred to the University of New Mexico. I graduated from UNM's Signed Language Interpreting Program--go Lobos!

I've always strongly valued people, community, and nature. There's a concept of a third space, the idea being that people commute between home and work but need a third space, a place to go for community and to find belonging. That concept really resonates with me.

Connection with nature is also important to me. I feel our connection to the Earth helps us to learn about who we are and how to interact with each other. We can learn from the Earth, and from our ancestors.

All of these values have collided in the founding of Deaf EcoFarm. I am thrilled and incredibly grateful to be a part of this project. I look forward to seeing it unfold!
