Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in our mission! We’re thrilled you’re here.

Karina Baker grew up in Los Angeles, California, where she went on summer camping trips to Catalina Island with her family. She also grew up watching her grandma and her dad tend to their gardens filled with roses, jasmine vines, pepper plants, and citrus trees. This sparked her love for the outdoors and exchanging gifts with Mother Earth. For years, she has dreamed of being part of an ASL community rooted in engagement with the natural world. She was so thrilled to meet others who shared this similar vision. Combining their passions, Deaf EcoFarm was born.

Karina holds two Master's degrees in International Development and Public Administration, specializing in environmental justice. She’s especially interested in climate-smart agriculture and environmental health. In 2022, she served as a Crew Leader for an all-Deaf conservation corps crew in Vermont, working on habitat restoration and trail maintenance projects. In 2023, she spent five months living and traveling in Asia for her International Development graduate internship in Vietnam. During her internship, she researched environmental issues in the Mekong Delta and interviewed a Deaf farmer to learn about the impacts experienced due to climate change.

Karina currently lives in Washington D.C., where she works as a Grants Project Officer for clean energy investments at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Outside of work, she loves doing yoga, going trail running, and getting lost in stories on her Kobo e-reader.
