Maria grew up in both St. Augustine, FL, and Rochester, NY , where she began to rediscover her Deaf identity. Her passion for the environment took root at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she earned a combined degree in Environmental Science, Psychology, and Laboratory Materials.

Her environmental journey ignited during her work with CorpsTHAT, where she co-led conservation efforts in Vermont, ensuring everything was accessible in ASL for the crew. She then gained experience as a crew member on conservation projects in New Mexico and Colorado.

Maria’s interest in agriculture deepened through an internship at Hawthorne Valley in NY , where she worked hands-on with place-based education. Last summer, she taught environmental education at the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies in Alaska, sharing her passion for the environment with children.

Now, Maria is excited to join the Deaf EcoFarm team, bringing together her diverse experiences in conservation, agriculture, and education. She’s committed to making environmental education accessible and engaging for all, ensuring everyone can connect with and learn about the environment. Outside of work, Maria enjoys spending time with chickens, hiking, and reading.
